Continue to the picturesque village of Birkat Al Mouz, nestled at the base of the mountains. Continue towards Al Hamra and visit Bait Al Safah, a traditional heritage house that also offers an immersive cultural experience. Depart from Nizwa and drive about 17 kilometers to the Oman Across Ages Museum near Manah, Spend time exploring the interactive exhibits that bring Oman’s history to life through fascinating displays of ancient artifacts, petroglyphs, and traditional cultural activities. After enjoying the museum and perhaps grabbing a coffee at the café, leave around midday for the desert adventure ahead. From the museum then visit Manah village and continue to the stunning Wahiba Sands desert. Arrive in the afternoon and immerse yourself in desert activities like camel riding, quad biking (at an extra fee, advance booking must be done). Don’t miss climbing the dunes in the afternoon to watch a spectacular sunset as the desert sky glows with warm hues. After the sunset, settle into your desert camp.

After an unforgettable overnight and morning in Wahiba Sands, depart and head east toward Wadi Bani Khalid. Arrive and explore this breathtaking wadi, known for it’s clear turquoise pools and picturesque rocky landscape. Spend your time swimming in the natural pools, hiking to the upper reaches, and visiting some of the caves scattered along the trails. Dress modestly for swimming, as local customs prefer t-shirts and shorts over bikinis. After a refreshing lunch at the wadi’s nearby restaurant (own expense) continue your journey towards Sur City, roughly a 1.5 to 2-hour drive from the wadi. Once in Sur, head out to explore the famous Dhow Shipyard, where traditional wooden dhows are still painstakingly built by hand, a true symbol of Oman’s maritime heritage. From there, visit Al Ayjah Village, a charming coastal neighborhood known for its historic sandstone watchtowers, a small fort, and a lighthouse that offers sweeping views of the Arabian Sea and Sur’s harbor. Take a leisurely stroll along the corniche, soaking in the sea breeze and watching the boats bob gently in the water. In the evening, enjoy a delicious local dinner before settling into your room for a restful night.

Drive along the coastal road to reach Qalhat, once a thriving port city and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Your first stop is the partially restored Tomb of Bibi Mariam, a hauntingly beautiful stone structure that stands as one of the few remnants of ancient Qalhat (only visit from a distance) Though much of the city lies in ruins, the area’s historical significance is immense—this was once a key trading hub visited by Marco Polo. After spending some time exploring the tomb and taking in the ocean views from this elevated site, continue your drive north along the coastal highway for about 30 minutes to reach the Bimmah Sinkhole, a dramatic limestone depression filled with vibrant turquoise water. This natural wonder is located in Hawiyat Najm Park and is perfect for a quick swim or a scenic break—don’t forget your swimwear and water shoes for comfort. After relaxing at the sinkhole, continue north for around an hour to reach the Wadi Dayqah Dam, one of the largest dams in Oman, located near the town of Qurayyat. The dam is set against a backdrop of rugged mountains and calm blue waters, making it a great spot for photos, a picnic, or a peaceful walk along the reservoir edge. You can wrap up your day by relaxing at the park near the dam, which has shaded seating areas and sweeping views of the water framed by arid hills.
