Upon arriving at Muscat International Airport in the morning, you will clear customs and collect your luggage before heading directly to the Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, located about 30 minutes from the airport. The mosque is a magnificent example of Islamic architecture and is renowned for its stunning prayer hall, adorned with one of the world’s largest hand-woven carpets and beautiful crystal chandeliers. Visitors are expected to dress modestly, and women should wear a headscarf. After exploring this iconic landmark and soaking in it’s serene atmosphere, you will drive approximately 30 minutes to the Amouage Perfume Factory. Here, you can take a guided tour to learn about the luxury perfume brand that blends traditional Omani frankincense with rare and exquisite ingredients. Following your time at Amouage, you will set off on a scenic two-hour drive to Jebel Akhdar, known as the “Green Mountain” in the Al Hajar range. The mountain’s cooler climate, terraced farms, and stunning views offer a refreshing change from the city’s coastal heat. Once there, you can explore the picturesque villages, admire the terraced orchards filled with pomegranates and peaches, and perhaps take a short hike to fully experience the area’s natural beauty. Depart early in the morning to make the most of your day, heading first to the magnificent Jabreen Castle, one of Oman’s most beautifully restored castles. This 17th-century palace was built by Imam Bil’arab bin Sultan and showcases exquisite Islamic architecture, painted wooden ceilings, secret passages, and expansive views from the rooftop. Explore it’s richly decorated halls and historic ambiance. From Jabreen, take a short drive to the UNESCO-listed Bahla Fort, one of the oldest and most impressive fortresses in Oman. Surrounded by remnants of ancient city walls, the fort is steeped in legend and history, with roots dating back to the pre-Islamic era. One of the UNESCO sites in Oman. Next, head towards Al Hamra, an ancient town known for its remarkably well-preserved two- and three-story mudbrick houses that date back over 400 years. From Al Hamra, continue uphill into the palm-lined village of Misfat Al Abriyeen, one of the most picturesque mountain villages in Oman. Park at the village entrance and follow the stone paths through terraced gardens, falaj irrigation channels, and ancient homes built on rock ledges. This is a great place for a short hike and photography, as well as a lunch break or coffee with a view in one of the village cafés. Drive back to Jebel Akhdar.

Adjacent to the fort is the Nizwa Souq, a bustling marketplace where you can browse for silver jewelry, pottery, spices, and other traditional crafts. If your visit falls on a Friday, try to arrive earlier to witness the famous livestock market, a truly authentic local experience. Just 15 minutes down the road is the Oman Across Ages Museum in Manah, a state-of-the-art facility that brings Oman's history vividly to life through interactive exhibits and immersive storytelling. From there, drive a short distance to Harat Al Bilad, the historic heart of Manah. Step into your day and visit Royal Opera House Muscat, one of the most beautiful examples of contemporary Omani architecture blending with traditional Islamic design. Next, make your way to Mutrah Souq, one of the oldest marketplaces in the Arab world, located just a 15–20 minute drive from the Opera House. Allow about an hour to wander through its labyrinthine alleys. You’ll find stalls packed with frankincense, myrrh, handmade silver jewelry, traditional Omani clothing, and antiques. The atmosphere is vibrant and authentic—perfect for picking up souvenirs or simply soaking in the sensory experience.After the souq, take a scenic drive along the Mutrah Corniche toward Old Muscat for a photo stop at the Al Alam Palace, the ceremonial residence of His Majesty the Sultan. The palace is known for its bold gold-and-blue facade and beautiful surrounding gardens. While access inside is not allowed, the exterior provides a stunning backdrop for photos. Nearby, stop briefly for exterior shots of the twin forts—Al Mirani and Al Jalali—which guard Muscat Bay. Though not open to the public, their imposing silhouettes on either side of the harbor are iconic symbols of Oman’s maritime heritage. From here, head to the Marina Bandar Al Rowdha to board your sunset dhow cruise, which typically departs around 4:00 PM. Plan to arrive 15–20 minutes early for boarding. The cruise lasts approximately two hours (4:00–6:00 PM) and offers a magical view of Muscat’s coastline as the sun dips below the horizon. Sit back on the traditional wooden dhow, enjoy Omani dates and kahwa and watch the colors of the sky change over the sea, mountains, and rugged cliffs. The cruise also offers occasional views of dolphins and historic landmarks along the coast.
